Overview

The joint funeral for Jack Washington and the Majors triplets serves as the emotional aftermath of the UTC Massacre. During the service, Troy publicly blames himself for Jack’s death. The event culminates in Mr. C formally recruiting Troy into Buzzutsu Academy, marking his commitment to becoming a buzzutsu sorcerer.

Detailed Plot Summary

A joint funeral is held for Jack Washington and the Majors triplets. Jack’s father, Scott Washington, delivers opening remarks and explains the family’s decision to honor the Majors alongside their son due to their lack of living relatives.

Troy is invited to speak. He reflects on his lifelong friendship with Jack and recounts how Jack and Warren supported him through difficult times. While describing a camping trip and the promises they made to remain together for life, Troy becomes overwhelmed with guilt. He publicly declares that he could have saved Jack and blames himself for surviving when his friends did not. Jack's mother consoles him, and he returns to his seat in visible distress.

During the service, Troy notices a tall unfamiliar man seated in the back of the chapel.

After the burial, Troy is approached by two individuals, Diego and Nicole, who claim to have known Warren. They reveal they are associated with “Mr. C,” who is present at the funeral.

Troy approaches Mr. C and witnesses him arguing with Jack’s father. Mr. Washington privately urges Troy not to involve himself in Warren’s world and insists that the massacre was not Troy’s fault. Troy verbally agrees, though internally he remains conflicted.

Mr. C confirms that he raised and trained Warren at Buzzutsu Academy. Through conversation, Troy deduces the existence of a hidden school dedicated to combating curses. Mr. C formally offers Troy a place at the academy, citing both his potential and the increasing threat of curses.

Motivated by guilt and a desire to honor his friends, Troy accepts the offer. Mr. C informs him that a car will arrive the following morning to take him to the academy.

The event concludes with Troy feeling, for the first time since the massacre, that he has a direction forward.
