Arc 0: Original Sin
Spirit War
In the beginning, Aeos created the Spirit World, and eternal spirits to dwell within it. These spirits created cities and civilizations, but after eons of existence, many became aimless and without form. It was then that Aeos began his second creation: Earth and the human race. Humans were spirits, or souls, confined to mortal bodies. These souls constantly leaked cursed energy, accelerated by the presence of negative emotions. Upon death, a human's soul ascended to Heaven. Some human souls were strong enough to perceive other spirits and to manipulate cursed energy. Only about 1 in 10 million humans is born with this innate technique. Despite their mortal struggle, humans flourished on the face of Earth. Spirits took great satisfaction in observing the human way of life.
However, Sin, the strongest of the spirits, was jealous of the humans. He gathered an army of spirits and tore through the veil which separated the spirit and mortal planes. The humans stood no chance against Sin, as they cannot naturally perceive spirits. Sin conquered the humans and ruled over them. No spirit dared to oppose Sin, save for seven: Vael, Kath, Navi, Tenet, Esma, Hoph, and Fide. These spirits mourned for the humans and asked Aeos for power so that they might oppose Sin. Aeos bestowed upon each of them one of his heavenly virtues: patience to Vael, chastity to Kath, diligence to Navi, temperance to Tenet, kindness to Esma, humility to Hoph, and charity to Fide. The seven virtues led the human armies in rebellion against Sin and his spirits. The ensuing conflict, known as the Spirit War, nearly decimated the entire planet. In a final show of strength, Sin nearly killed all seven virtues. But before Sin could destroy the virtues, they shred their forms and possessed the body of a powerful human warrior named Raphael. Raphael wielded the might of the virtues and destroyed Sin, fracturing him into seven spirits. He sealed each of these spirits into seven cursed artifacts and hid them across Earth.
Aeos was deeply saddened by the destruction of his creation, and divided the spirit and mortal worlds so that cursed energy could no longer traverse the two. Only human souls were allowed to pass through the divide. The remaining humans on Earth formed twelve tribes: Olobuku, Meiyo, Isutita, Libertate, Prostates, Skjordr, Emunah, Mabadi, Comaperismo, Shantih, Zunzhong, and Nentlacatl. Raphael belonged to the Olobukun tribe, and he taught his people how to defeat curses in preparation their return. When Raphael passed, his children inherited his virtuous energy, and so the line of virtue continued. After many years free from spirits, only the Olobukun tribe still believed in them. As humans once again flourished and their numbers grew, more cursed energy was leaked into Earth. This energy gave birth to spirits who hated humanity for their being trapped on Earth: cursed spirits. These cursed spirits are in constant agony due to no longer being able to traverse the spirit plane. The appearance of sorcerers and spirits is so rare that to this day almost all humans live blissfully unaware of their existence. However, the explosion in population growth over the last few centuries has necessitated the creation of organizations to combat the curse threat.
Children of Eden
The Children of Eden, also known as the Sindicate, or simply the Children, served Sin during his time on Earth. Upon Sin's defeat, the Children of Eden were exiled from human society, but secretly plotted to free Sin from his bondage by combining all seven sins in a single vessel. Over the past several thousand years, they have fought against the Olobukuns, but have been unsuccessful in securing any of the sin artifacts. The strongest member of the Children, known as the Emissary, is chosen to act as a vessel for the sins.
In 1976, Crina Constantinescu, a member of the Children, chose to flee for the sake of her unborn son, Pavel. In 1981, the Emissary discovered Crina's whereabouts and executed her and her entire family as punishment. Unbeknownst to the Emissary, young Pavel survived due to his latent cursed energy healing. He was found by the Buzzutsu Council to be protected from the Children. He later assumed a prominent position within Buzzutsu Academy due to his powerful technique.
The Children's search for the next Emissary ended in 2015 when Warren Majors, age 11, emerged with a cursed technique. The cult began preparations to recover the Artifact of Envy and feed it to Warren. Before they could accomplish this, the Olobukun and Buzzutsu sorcerers raided the Children's underground lair and slaughtered its members. The Emissary teleports away to the Spirit World. After the air cleared, Pavel found a barely alive Warren clutching the corpses of his brother, Caspian Majors, and sister, Melanie Majors. In that moment, Pavel saw the same frightened boy he once was when the cult took his family from him. The Olobukun sorcerers approached Warren with raised weapons, but Pavel ordered them to stand down. The Olobukuns protested, insisting that the chosen vessel for Sin could not be left alive. Unwilling to allow Warren to die, Pavel killed the remaining members of the Olobukun tribe. Pavel chose to guide the boy towards a better path, enrolling him in Buzzutsu Academy. He adopted Warren, who lived with him until he was old enough to inherit his parent's house. Pavel told Warren that it was the Sindicate who killed his parents, and that they had fought valiantly to protect him.
Artifact of Envy
Deeply troubled by the deaths of his family, Warren recreated his siblings as benevolent spirits. As much as he tried, he was unable to recreate his parents in a way which pleased him. To reconnect with his parents, Warren often studied their old possessions. At age 20, Warren discovered a secret message within his father's writings. This prompted him to search the house thoroughly, and he discovered a study hidden beneath the house's foundation. He learned the truth about his parents' involvement in the Sindicate, their deaths, and his destiny as the vessel of Sin. Additionally, he discovered the Artifact of Envy in the study. The journal of Warren's father revealed that he was hesitant to sacrifice his oldest son and hid the fact that he had already claimed the final artifact of sin.
Warren returned to the scene of the Sindicate headquarters, only to find Pavel there waiting for him. Pavel confirms Warren's suspicions about his parents and attempts to console him, but Warren cannot help but feel betrayed. One day, while Warren was with Caspian, Melanie, Jackson Washington, and Troy Demasters at the UTC mall in Bradenton, Florida, he momentarily separated from the group. With the Artifact of Envy in his possession, Warren contemplated whether he ought to consume its power. He could hear whatever it contained calling out to him, begging to be opened. It was then that Warren decided what had to be done. He called out to his brother and sister and entrusted them with the truth of his parents and the betrayal of Pavel. Caspian was hesitant, but they agreed to join him on his quest for justice. With that, he consumed the Artifact of Envy and became the vessel for Envy.
Arc 1: Buzzutsu Academy
UTC Massacre
With Envy's power, Warren unleashes his powerful “Brain Rot” technique in the UTC mall, corrupting Jack, Melanie, and Caspian, and killing 57 others. This corruption grants those who survive it cursed techniques, but allows Warren to exert control over their minds. Troy is in the bathroom when Warren unleashed Brain Rot, and hurries back to find a barely-alive Jack on the ground. However, before he can do anything, a shadowy figure appears and renders Troy unconscious. Troy inexplicably survives, possibly by activating Midnight Steel, an advanced form of his technique, or because Warren spares him. Mr. C and Elysia Fielding find Troy in the aftermath of the massacre and remark on his exceptional potential.
Funeral
Two weeks after the UTC Massacre, a funeral is held for Warren, Melanie, Caspian, and Jack. At the funeral, a guilt-stricken Troy meets Diego de la Vega and Nicole Brooks, friends of Warren from Buzzutsu Academy (abbreviated BZA), a secret institution for sorcerer training. They introduce Troy to Mr. C, who Troy deduces was the man who taught Warren how to use his technique. Mr. C invites Troy to study at Buzzutsu Academy, and he accepts, wishing to avenge his fallen friends.
Devious Lick
The next morning, Kim Hall, administrative assistant at BZA, arrives with Diego and Nicole to pick up Troy. On their way to the academy, Kim receives a call from D. Cypher alerting the group to a curse sighting at nearby Pinebrook Elementary School. Kim argues that it would be irresponsible to bring Troy to the curse and that she should first drop him off at the academy. However, Diego, Nicole, and Troy convince her to drive to Pinebrook Elementary.
Troy, Diego, and Nicole rush into the school and encounter the Devious Lick, a bipedal curse with a monstrous appetite. Despite their efforts, its skin is impervious to their attacks. Nicole devises a strategy to implant a bookunai into one of Diego's squid constructs, luring Devious Lick to consume the bookunai and reveal its weak spot. While Diego distracts Devious Lick with his squids, Troy enters it from within and Nicole directs him towards its soul. While inside Devious Lick, Troy finds four children trapped inside. He experiences a flashback of his deceased friends and has an anxiety attack. Nicole calms Troy down and he is able to locate the soul and exorcise the curse. Then, Kim drives the three of them to BZA.
Tour of Buzzutsu Academy
Troy, Diego, Nicole, and Kim arrive at Buzzutsu Academy and Troy is given a tour. He meets several members of the staff, including the headmaster and librarian Mrs. Godwin, the combat instructor Coach Briggs, and the part-time instructor Mrs. Lancaster. Additionally, Troy meets Renzo Ramirez in the garage, Morgana Cole in her forge, and Cypher in his darkroom. Other students at the academy include Sasha Finlay, Bagwis Navarro, Isabella Morales, Lily Valladares, and Lenny Benson. Mr. C briefly shows Troy the location of the vault. The tour ends with Troy unpacking in his dorm room.
Chicken Man Rampage
The Purge Corps, a classified branch of the US military which employs sorcerers to fight curses, approaches Buzzutsu Academy with incapacitating the rogue Chicken Man curse loose in a government facility. Captain Ezekiel Delmar explains that the organization's sorcerers are all tied up with more important matters and so he needs to contract the academy for this job. Chief scientist Doctor Mikhail Mrchofrey briefs Troy, Diego, and Nicole on the mission. They successfully defeat Chicken Man, but he transforms into a large indestructible egg. Before they can investigate, Dr. Mrchofrey appears and dismisses them from the facility.
Diego's Magnum Opus/Morgana Repairs Caduceus Staff
Diego's older brother, Fenix de la Vega, visits Buzzutsu Academy. He asks Diego how his magnum opus is coming along, but Diego is embarrassed and hides it from him. Meanwhile, Coach has accidentally broken Elysia's caduceus staff. Elysia asks Morgana if she can repair it for her. Morgana says she can, but needs Elysia to go out and collect an assortment of materials first. Elysia takes Renzo with her to find everything on the list. Diego and Fenix spend the day together and eventually visit a comic book shop. While they are there, a curse materializes outside and Fenix defeats it easily by using "Reverse Lethality" on a comic book. Elysia and Renzo struggle to find the last material on Morgana's list: limited edition potato chips sold out in every store. After driving all through the night, they finally find the last bag at a remote convenience store, but just as Renzo grabs one end of it another customer grabs the other end. Renzo becomes visibly upset and starts changing his gear, scaring the customer. Elysia apologizes and the two leave with the bag of chips. Morgana reveals that the chips were not necessary for the repairs and that she just wanted them, to the bemusement of Elysia and Renzo. We see Diego working on his magnum opus: a painting of him and his brother.
Magnus Joins the Academy
Mr. C's reputation as the strongest leads Magnus Ulthane to transfer to Buzzutsu Academy as its first international student. When he arrives, he seeks to challenge each student to a sparring match in order to prove his strength as a sorcerer. After besting many of the students, he asks Troy to fight him, but Troy is reluctant. However, Magnus goads Troy into a fight and the battle is much closer than anyone anticipated. Because of Troy's strength, Magnus grows to respect him. Magnus spars with Mr. C and is handily defeated.
Renzo Leaves the Academy
At the academy, Troy has reoccurring nightmares about losing his friends and of the mysterious shadowy figure. After one such nightmare, he wakes up in a cold sweat. His guilt drives him to leave the academy to pursue the shadowy figure, but he is stopped by Renzo, who takes him to the Blue Rose Speedway. Renzo reveals that his true passion is working on cars, and that he only participated in the academy because he felt like he had to. He claims that he never wanted to be a hero. Troy agrees with Renzo, saying that he's only at the academy as a means to avenge his friends. However, Renzo tells Troy that he's wrong, and that he has grown to connect with the people at the academy and find purpose there. Troy realizes this to be true, thanks Renzo, and sneaks back into the academy.
Raphael Interlude 1
In her eight years in the Spirit World, the Emissary learns that Gabriel de Leon-Mensah, one of three remaining Olobukuns, poses a danger to the Earth in that he is a capable vessel of the Seven Deadly Sins. She conceives of a plot to goad Gabriel into tracking down the Artifacts of Sin. She then tracks down the three remaining Olobukuns to their home in Umbwe, Tanzania. She ambushes and kills Lateo de Leon-Mensah and Nia de Leon-Mensah while their son, Gabriel, is at work. When Gabriel returns, he finds the bodies of his parents. His father, Lateo, is barely alive, and with his dying breath entrusts Gabriel to defeat Sin. Gabriel exits his house and finds the Emissary waiting for him. She explains the millennia-long conflict between the Sindicate and the Olobukuns, then tells Gabriel that the Olobukun line will end with him. She uses her teleportation powers to bring Gabriel to the top of Mt. Kilimanjaro, and tosses him an axe with which to defend himself. Gabriel has unlocked his dormant virtuous energy, and is able to defeat the Emissary. Gabriel tells the Emissary that he will find the Seven Deadly Sins and put an end to Sin once and for all. The Emissary gives a crooked smile before Gabriel leaves her to die. Gabriel changes his name to Raphael and embarks on his journey to defeat Sin.
Later that day, Mr. C confronts a dying Emissary and the two discuss the condition of the world. Then, the Emissary dies.
Girls Shopping Trip/Shikigami Shenanigans
Diego creates a shikigami rabbit and names it Mylo. Everyone thinks Mylo is great until it starts creating a mess of Buzzutsu Academy. Nicole, Isabella, Elysia, and Morgana decide to take a girls' shopping trip since they are so often secluded in the academy. Isabella reveals that she feels uncomfortable out in the world since the academy is all she's known from an early age, but the other girls comfort her and expose her to pop culture. Meanwhile, Bagwis is upset with Diego because Mylo tore through his favorite shirt. Lily comforts Bagwis and the Buzzutsu sorcerers devise a way to capture Mylo. The girls return to the academy, find it a total mess, and decide to go back out for ice cream.
Raphael Interlude 2
Raphael completes the Trial of Sloth and consumes the Artifact of Sloth.
Omen Breaches The Academy
The cyberized Omen curse hacks into Cipher's curse tracking software and creates fake cursed energy signatures to lure the Buzzutsu sorcerers out of the academy. The academy splits off into three pairs to subdue the curses: Troy and Isabella, Diego and Bagwis, and Nicole and Sasha. When each pair reaches their designated location, they are ambushed by a powerful curse. Troy and Isabella face off against Chicken Man in a forest. Diego and Bagwis face off against Confine in an abandoned office building. Nicole and Sasha face off against Mirage on the beach. Meanwhile, Cipher contends with Omen digitally and exorcises him within the program. He tries to warn the sorcerers that they are walking into an ambush, but he is too late. However, each pair is able to combine their strengths in order to defeat the curse threat. Connor Castillo, a curse disguised as a human sorcerer, pretends to have been a captive of Chicken Man and asks Troy if he can join Buzzutsu Academy. Troy feels sorry for Connor and accepts his request.
Raphael Interlude 3
Raphael completes the Trial of Wrath and consumes the Artifact of Wrath before being confronted by Mr. C, Coach Briggs, Mrs. Lancaster, and Mrs. Godwin. They attempt to talk him down, but are forced to fight him.
Jack Attack
We cut back to the academy. Cypher’s surveillance has detected something big. Mr. C calls an assembly and tells the academy that Raphael is a threat. The administration has decided that all of the sorcerers will go reason/fight with Raphael, as their previous attempts failed. The students/young graduates are all left behind to defend the academy. The trio is told to guard the Vault instead of fight while the rest defend. Diego doesn’t mind much because he’ll be able to continue his drawings. Troy is disappointed because he wants to grow stronger by facing tougher curses. Nicole believes she is above this task and deserves to be out fighting curses. She goes off to fight after rigging her bookunai.
Originally the fight is going fine, but then Joey Pepper and the Chicken Man and Jack fight occurs. Fenix is visiting the academy at this time and is part of the fight. Diego finds out his brother is fighting and leaves his post to assist. Troy doesn’t want to be left by himself so he also goes to try and make himself useful. He realizes that Isabella is probably under attack and goes to help her. He defends the Infirmary for a while.
Diego puts up a decent fight but is clearly outmatched by Jack. Fenix finishes up with Joey Pepper and dukes it out with Jack. Jack has a harder time against him and deems him worthy to die by Nisshoku. They have a western/samurai standoff where Fenix assumes a finger gun stance loaded with his Null set technique, and Jack with his Nisshoku ready to be drawn. They wait until the flickering subway light goes out until both engage. The light goes out and In a blink of an eye Jack kills Fenix. As Fenix falls to the ground, we see Jack with half his body atomized by Null Set. Jack meets Diego’s eyes briefly before being retrieved by Caspian.
Caspian sets off the trap when he steals the COVID curse; this gives Nicole plot importance because she is able to read Caspian's thoughts and determine his location. Due to him being a very complex and evolved cursed spirit his mind is almost indistinguishable from a sorcerer's. Troy thinks he sees Caspian but figures he must be hallucinating. Eventually, Troy notices that the door to the vault is open. The Covid curse is missing.
Drew Scott appears during the siege and a select group of students get sucked into The Eaze. Magnus fights Melanie, but he initially holds back because she is a woman and tries to immobilize her instead. She then puts up a fight and he reassesses her. She and the rest of the curses retreat once Jack is injured and retrieved by Caspian. Warren is presumed dead although Troy suspects/has a hunch that Warren is still alive but he’s not sure nor does he tell anyone about this.
Raphael Interlude 4
Raphael, possessing the sins of Sloth and Wrath, handily defeats all the Buzzutsu instructors save for Mr. C. Mr. C hits him with his domain expansion, but Sloth solves the pop quiz. Mr. C tries one more time to explain to Raphael that his path is dangerous for everybody, but then receives a call that BZA is under attack. He chooses to take a gamble on Raphael and tells the younger sorcerer that he will let him go but keep an eye on him.
Arc 2: Son of Envy
Teachers Return
Teachers return. Opens with Ms. Godwin being upset, but once the teachers realize that there has been great loss they go a bit easier on the trio. Diego grieves his brother and the teachers realize that a bunch of academy students are missing. They spend some time unpacking the situation.
Nicole has difficulty reading Caspian at first due to the telepathic struggle of reading his mind. Nicole reveals she is kind of tracking Caspian. Mr. C then says that in order to make up for disobeying orders, the trio must go retrieve the curse. The other teachers think this is gross negligence, but do not oppose Mr. C. They prepare (weapons, advice, who knows?) and set out on their journey. Troy thinks he sees Caspian so he's invested and Diego is just ready to avenge his brother.
Raphael Interlude 2
Raphael is still trying to find the other sins. He does not like Mr. C. We can flesh this out more.
Journey to COVID
The trio goes on the journey guided by Nicole. We add some more filler stuff that the trio does.
Nicole gets better control over the bond and probes the depths of Caspian's brain. She learns that Warren, Melanie, and Jack are alive but doesn’t reveal this to the academy as they make a deal. Nicole won’t tell about their identities (as Warren commands), and in turn Caspian will keep their link hush hush and cooperate. She then discovers that he is a cursed spirit. She reveals this fact to Caspian and he stops communicating with her.
Caspian Confronts Warren
Caspian confronts Warren. Warren confirms Nicole’s hypothesis, so Caspian has a mental breakdown and sends the COVID curse to the trio. Curse gets intercepted (Connor?) and heads to the Auction. Warren kills/lobotomizes Caspian for what he did, tells Melanie that Nicole did it.
Auctioneer
The auctioneer Silas Greaves has the COVID curse. In order to enter the Auction the gang is dressed in formal attire and has to somehow gain COVID curse without fighting due to binding vow.
COVID Curse Fight
Fight against COVID with remaining students plus Mr. C. Mr. C fights COVID curse and gets infected and physically wastes away after the fight to prevent Magnus from unleashing Ragnarok. After they win the fight, our heroes return to the Academy only to find the students who were pulled into The Eaze have returned.
The Eaze Part 1
This is a flashback. Sasha, Cypher, Bagwis, Lenny, and Vivvy were sucked into The Eaze. They find crucial information to beat Warren and then find their way out, but Sasha gets injured. She can only be healed by something in The Eaze, so Cypher stays behind with her. The rest of the group leave without them.
Versus Majors
Big battle. COVID curse is destroyed so Warren gets mad and lashes out by creating a curse army. Melanie and Nicole fight, Nicole tells her she didn’t kill Caspian but that Warren did. Melanie changes sides. Jack kills Fenix during the fight, Diego goes beast mode but is still bested by Jack. Troy swoops in. Warren realizes Melanie turned and doesn't want Jack to turn too, so he opens his domain...Troy goes after Warren, says “You don’t have to do this.” Warren is like “But I want to.” Troy realizes he’s too far gone and defeats Warren.
Arc 3: Sins Unleashed
WIP. This main arc chiefly deals with the aftermath of the Seven Deadly Sins being unleashed, as well as dealings with the Spirit World.
