Overview
Raphael journeys through the Sahara to a hidden chamber containing a mysterious pocketwatch artifact, where time itself appears frozen. Inside, he experiences a vision of his ancestor sealing Sloth within the artifact and guarding a creature known as the last Kongamato. As Raphael attempts to claim the artifact, he is drawn into a psychological confrontation with Sloth, who traps him in illusions of his past and tempts him to give up. Resisting through sheer will and emotional resolve, Raphael ultimately shatters the artifact and redirects its overwhelming cursed energy into his weapon, preventing possession. He leaves the chamber with Sloth partially contained within him and the newly hatched Kongamato in tow, fully aware that he is now in a race against time to defeat the other fragments of Sin before they consume him.
Detailed Plot Summary
Raphael traverses the harsh Sahara desert in search of a mysterious artifact, guided by an internal pull. He discovers a hidden plateau concealing a secret chamber where time appears frozen—torches stand still, air is motionless, and the environment resists movement. Inside, he finds a room filled with bones, a strange egg, and a floating pocketwatch-like artifact that he cannot fully perceive or approach.
Unable to immediately claim the artifact, Raphael investigates the chamber and triggers a memory from his ancestor—the original Raphael. In this vision, he witnesses the sealing of the sin of Sloth into the pocketwatch and the placement of the Kongamato egg, protected by inscriptions warning others to guard it. The ancestor invokes a powerful ritual, slowing time itself and summoning a spiritual entity to maintain the seal, revealing that this chamber is both a prison and a safeguard.
Returning to his present self, Raphael is overwhelmed by exhaustion and slips into a dream-like state where he encounters Sloth directly. Sloth manifests as a grotesque, childlike figure seated upon a throne and attempts to manipulate Raphael psychologically, urging him to give up. Raphael resists and demands a way to free Sloth from the artifact, but the encounter escalates as Sloth drags him deeper into illusion—placing him within a fabricated version of his past life as Gabriel, complete with his family and unresolved trauma.
Within this illusion, Raphael relives a painful memory involving his sick mother and absent father, struggling with helplessness and regret. As the illusion begins to break down, he realizes the truth: the scenario is a construct designed to trap him emotionally. Confronting Sloth (disguised as his father) Raphael rejects the illusion and reaffirms his resolve, choosing to leave behind the false comfort of the past in order to continue his mission.
Back in the chamber, Raphael successfully grasps the artifact, triggering a violent surge of energy. The seal breaks, releasing both golden (pure) energy and corrupt cursed energy as Sloth attempts to take control of his body. Through intense pain and determination, Raphael refuses possession and instead channels the cursed energy into his weapon, Fuerza Cacique, transforming it into a darkened, empowered form. He destroys the artifact in the process, effectively containing Sloth within himself and his weapon rather than allowing it full control.
With the artifact destroyed, the chamber returns to normal. Raphael then turns his attention to the egg, which begins to hatch, revealing a small Kongamato—a bat-like bird creature. Despite its aggressive behavior, he takes responsibility for it, recognizing its importance. As he leaves the chamber, Raphael realizes the cost of his actions: Sloth now resides within him, slowly draining his life. Accepting this burden, he resolves to hunt down and unite the remaining fragments of Sin before they destroy him, marking the beginning of a far more dangerous phase of his journey.
